    This tile table top is intended to show the relationship between darkness and light.  Dark is not just one color here.  It is composed of different shades of blue and green.  It has varying textures to it.  I am interested in exploring what darkness really is.  In this piece I wanted to show, with the colors and shapes of the tile, how it is that the calm stillness of the dark attracts and is penetrated by the light.  Regardless of my ideas, the composition of the table top conveys an interesting feeling of serene balance and solemnity.  The tile is complemented by a beautiful welded steel border in a shape

reminiscent of elegant and opulent moldings that one might find in an old mansion.  That opulence is further reinforced by the beautiful cast iron pedestal upon which the tile top sits.
