This table was inspired during a trip to Manhattan, while staying on the 37th floor of an apt. building on 1st Ave and 38th St. I was painting in water colors every day and this piece reflects the vast manmade landscape that I soaked myself in during the trip.

Christina made this beautiful tile depicting a winter scene in nature.  “It is just my feeling about winter and not a literal rendering.  The colors are wintery, cold and pure.  This tile, and it's placement on top of

the table base represents the garden terraces that are on top of some

of the old apartment buildings in New York.  Those gardens are secret,

private bits of nature, much treasured by those who can afford to own

them.  These tile are set into the base of this table just like a

valuable jewel beautifully shown off in an intricate pure silver ring.

The feeling of value, age and protected fragility is further enhanced

by the fine lines of cracking seen in the glaze. The glaze looks just

like that found on ancient vases”.

Aside from the extremely detailed exterior of the place, it was important for me to keep in mind that each structure also contains an inner space with its own environment and contents. I expressed this idea by making each leg complete with its own hidden, yet functional drawer, including a primary drawer that is situated in the table’s skirt. These hidden drawers very labor intensive and are situated by very strong magnets.
